How to Create a Google Plus Account for Sharing

Google+ (Google Plus) offers a wide variety of features and benefits, with numerous ways to connect with family, friends and, yet-to-be made friends, individually and in circles.  Amongst other things you can share photos and events.

I had actually already signed up and had a Google+ account when I set up the gmail address for this account AND I hadn’t paid much attention to it.

Then my friend Morgine told me about Screensharing with Google Hangouts.  Learning about that was enough to get me going and I hope you, too.

In order to set up a Google+ account for Hangouts, Screensharing, Chatting and much more you need to:

1. First go to plus.google.com and Sign Up.

2. You will need to have a Google account. If you don’t yet have a Google account, signing up for that will be the first step. If you need help with that, to to How to create a Google account one of the posts here in the Technology for Seniors Made Easy blog.

So long as you already have a Google account, you can Sign up for Google Plus with any of your email addresses. It does not have to be a Google (gmail) mail address, although you may need your Gmail address for log in.

Once signed into plus.google.com, for the first time, you will be asked to create a Google Plus account.

3. To do that, simply fill in the blanks you’ll see on the window that appears. See video below for signing up with an already existing Google account. Step-by-step images are also below.

4. You will need to fill Your Name, Gender and Birthdate. I choose to uncheck the box for permission to share information.

Aside from the initial required profile details, you can skip taking action on any of the other windows if you want to go straight to Hangouts.  You can always go back and fill in your profile.

When you are finally in, you will see a variety of choices, links you can select for making a wide range of connections.
